Artwork N31

Jan Roos is currently painting on the frost-resistant tiles for the artwork along the N31. The total work of art consists of two tile pictures, each 13 meters long, which will decorate the balustrades of the oval roundabout. The ovotabout will soon be the entrance to Harlingen. When the painting is finished, there will be glazing, firing and the tiles will be mounted on sandwich panels before mounting on site. The artist wants to capture the story of Harlingen and surroundings in his own style in the tile technique. People entering the city will not miss his artwork on Harlinger tiles.

Paint on frost resistant tiles

In preparation, the tiles measuring 20 x 20 cm were prepared to size and the colors and glazes were tested by Jan Roos at the Harlinger Pottery and Tile Factory. A great collaboration between two Harlingen parties that provide a permanently beautiful view of the ovotabout when entering Harlingen! The photos show Jan’s practice in the technique under the guidance of the tile painters.
